SINALOA, Mexico • 25 February 2026: Paramedics Héctor and Julio were on high alert while responding to a recent violent incident in Sinaloa, wearing 14 kg of Kevlar body armour and protective plates for safety.
Julio emphasized the necessity of the gear: “We don’t know if the perpetrators are still at the scene or have completed their objective. There is a real risk of being caught in crossfire and sustaining injuries.”
The incident involved the killing of a local garage owner and the kidnapping of three men from the same premises. As paramedics returned to their base at sunset, the once-bustling city was quiet, with slowed traffic and a growing sense of tension.
The Mexican government has deployed thousands of troops to the area, setting up checkpoints across most roads. Soldiers and marines conducted thorough inspections of vehicles to locate the kidnapped men and secure the city against further violence.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, while first responders like Héctor and Julio maintain vigilance to safely provide emergency services amid ongoing threats.
The operation underscores the challenges faced by civilians and emergency teams in regions affected by organised crime, highlighting the importance of security measures and preparedness in high-risk environments.
