Doha, November 2 (QNA) – HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, stated that the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD), to be held in Doha from November 4 to 6, seeks to renew global commitment to the principles adopted in Copenhagen and build upon past achievements to advance comprehensive and sustainable social development amid current global challenges.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency noted that the summit continues the efforts initiated at the First WSSD, held in Copenhagen in 1995, which marked a milestone in global endeavors to combat poverty, reduce unemployment, and strengthen social cohesion.
She explained that the summit will serve as an international platform for exchanging experiences among nations and organizations, while enhancing cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the UN 2030 Agenda. Key themes include poverty reduction, women’s and youth empowerment, strengthening social protection systems, supporting rural communities, and building individual and institutional capacities for inclusive and sustainable growth.
HE Sheikha Hanouf emphasized that Qatar’s hosting of the summit reaffirms its global standing and its commitment to multilateral cooperation in addressing social and economic challenges, particularly amid rapid global transformations. The event underscores Qatar’s dedication to promoting social justice, equal opportunity, and the empowerment of vulnerable groups as integral elements of sustainable development.
She added that the Ministry’s Department of International Organizations is coordinating with national entities to ensure the summit’s success and tangible outcomes, reinforcing Qatar’s constructive role in global dialogue on justice and equality.
Her Excellency expressed appreciation to all partners for their collaboration and anticipated broad participation, highlighting Doha’s growing reputation as a hub for international dialogue and partnership in advancing sustainable social development.
