Mirpur DBA President seeks vibrant role of stakeholders to protect environment planting maximum trees during all friendly seasons in AJK

MIRPUR ( AJK): February 13; In his first formal chat with media here on Thursday on the current heated topic of individual and collective role by all segments of the civil society for successfully meeting the challenges of climate change, newly elected President of AJK’s biggest Mirpur District Bar Association and seasomed environmentalist Mahmood Chaudhry Advocated called for plantation of trees in nook and corner of Azad Jummu Kashmir during the just starting spring season.

“People from all walks of life including the families with gardens should plant maximum trees during the ongoing spring tree plantation drive across AJK including this much fertile scenic District of Mirpur”, Mahmood Chaudhry emphasised while talking to our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao here on Thursday.

The seasoned environmentalist cum jurist Gave the call-to-action as he admitted “we’re way behind where we need to be” on tree-planting targets.

The AJK government, it may be mentioned here, intends to plant at least 02 million more trees by the end of the ongoing season.

Mahmood Chaudhry called for changing the process to make it easier to plant trees across the State to help meet the massive challenges of climate change.

The target includes ‘a huge stretch for all of us to plant maximum of trees’, Mahmood said.

He continued that it was enjoined upon all of us, including the state and non-state stakeholders have prime responsibility to focus for protecting the environment and that could be ensured only through plantation of trees during all the friendly seasons every year.

The DBA President particularly emphasised for making state run Environmental Protection Agency a vibrant institution for protection of environment from all sorts of pollution and the custodian of the polluted-free environment, he urged.

Regarding vibrant individuals role, the seasoned environmental expert urged that each family, if they have a garden, needs to be planting more trees in their garden. Local authorities, anybody who owns land, can be thinking where can we plant trees, because trees are good things.”
