MIRPUR (AJK), March 4 — In a bid to raise public awareness and strengthen preparedness for emergencies, local authorities conducted a comprehensive mock exercise of state emergency services here on Wednesday. Officials said the exercise aimed to ensure effective communication, coordination, and timely response in case of any potential emergencies, including terrorism, fire outbreaks, building explosions, or major traffic accidents.
Rescue 1122 Mirpur organized the exercise at Government Boys Pilot High School No. 1 Mirpur, following directives from the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and special instructions from the Director General of the State Disaster Management Authority. A sudden explosion and fire scenario was simulated in a government building, prompting the Rescue Control Room to immediately dispatch emergency teams.
Fire vehicles, ambulances, and rescue mobiles reached the scene within minutes. Evacuation procedures were carried out using stairs and emergency exits, while injured individuals were shifted to safe locations on stretchers. The firefighting team controlled the fire using water bowsers and foam and conducted interior search and rescue operations with protective gear. Officials from district offices, various departments, and sensitive agencies observed and assessed the response.
District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Mirpur, Sardar Najam Saduzai, stated that the exercise aimed to identify practical shortcomings, review response times, and enhance inter-agency cooperation to provide immediate and quality assistance during real emergencies.
He added that all relevant agencies will continue working under a unified strategy to safeguard public life and property, and such training activities and mock exercises will be regularly conducted. The exercise concluded successfully, with professional capabilities and coordinated performance of all participating agencies receiving appreciation.
The drill also emphasized public participation and awareness, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in emergencies. Volunteers and school staff were briefed on safety measures, first-aid procedures, and evacuation protocols. Authorities noted that continuous training, drills, and awareness campaigns would further strengthen the city’s resilience and ensure citizens are better prepared to respond calmly and efficiently during real-life emergencies.
