Doha, Qatar – 3 September 2025: Msheireb Museums, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Doha, presented the globally celebrated exhibition “MARMO | MARBLE. CARVING THE FUTURE,” held at Bin Jelmood House Lower Gallery.

Organised and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and Confindustria Marmomacchine, the national association representing the Italian stone machinery industry, with the artistic and creative direction of Magister Art, the exhibit highlights the enduring legacy and future-forward innovation of Italian marble craftsmanship.

Having travelled to prestigious venues in Algiers, Washington, Puebla, and Dubai, the exhibition arrives in Doha to illuminate the deep connections between culture, artistry, and industrial mastery that define Italy’s marble tradition. Through a striking blend of historical reverence and contemporary ingenuity, MARMO presents how this timeless material has shaped architecture, sculpture, and design across centuries—from the masterpieces of Michelangelo, Bernini, and Canova to cutting-edge applications in modern art and technology.

Visitors to the Msheireb Museums will find a compelling dialogue between history and modernity, where traditional craftsmanship meets advanced techniques. The exhibition, which has been shown in various venues since 2023, conveys the continuous exchange between business and art, embodied in both historic sculptures and innovative contemporary works. Adding a unique dimension, an original soundtrack accompanies the exhibition, weaving a rich auditory experience that connects each gallery space and enhances visitor engagement on an emotional and sensory level.

Alongside the Italian exhibits transported for this global tour, the exhibition features a special contribution from Qatari artist Shuaa Ali, whose work highlights the adaptability of marble and natural stone within the local cultural and artistic context. Her pieces provide a meaningful link between the exhibition’s Italian roots and Qatar’s evolving art scene, reflecting the material’s global reach and local resonance.

Abdulla Al Naama, General Manager of Msheireb Museums, said: “This exhibition continues our ongoing relationship with the Italian Embassy in Qatar and cultural organisations. By presenting Italy’s marble heritage alongside Qatari artistic responses, we’ve created a dialogue about how traditional materials speak to contemporary practices.”

HE Paolo Toschi, Ambassador of Italy to Qatar, said: “The inauguration of the ‘MARMO’ exhibition here in Doha is a testament to the deep and growing cultural and trade dialogue between Italy and Qatar. This initiative not only celebrates our shared appreciation for art and beauty, but also highlights the value of strengthening ties in sectors that are synonyms with excellence, such as the marble industry. This fabled material is central to the history of architecture but also to top contemporary design projects all over the world. Together with Qatar, we build bridges that foster understanding, cooperation, and mutual growth.”

Renato Saporito, Founder and CEO of Magister Art, said: “Marble is one of the identity assets of the Italian cultural heritage, it is the material that symbolises the art and architecture of our country through the centuries. Enhancing and promoting its values with an exhibition that traces its processing stages while celebrating Strength, Technique and Beauty means creating new connections for the promotion and appreciation of our territory. With its strong international outlook, the vision of Magister Art is key to the enhancement of Italy’s immense artistic and cultural heritage and technological know-how.”

The MARMO | MARBLE. CARVING THE FUTURE will be open during Msheireb Museums’ regular operating hours and runs until 8 October.
