A grand walk, organized in Union Council, Kharidha, Union Council Lehri, Azizpur under the auspices of MERF-ACT International in connection with the national cancer prevention campaign, was hallmark of the inaugural ceremony of the drive, Mirpur District Health Officer Dr Fida Hussain Raja told our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao here on Saturday.
Doctors, health staff and Lady Health Supervisor and, CRP Anam Zara, while highlighting salient features of the campaign, said that the national campaign for HPV vaccine cancer prevention will formally start from September 15 and will continue for 13 days till Sept 27 to administer vaccine through intramuscular intjection to the girls of the age of 9 to 14 years through the paramedical female staff.
The doctors disclosed that the HPV vaccine will be injected to the girls free of cost to protect them from a deadly disease like cervical cancer in the future.
The medical experts leading the drive, urged parents to take their daughters to vaccination centers and schools. The doctors said “we, from all walks of life, should participate fully in this national campaign, as this is a guarantee of protecting our girls from diseases like cancer”. “This message should also be disseminated through social media platforms”, they urged.
Doctors, girls’ school students and teachers, media persons, and representatives of MERF-ACT International participated in the walk.
