In a striking act of protest, the majority of member state delegations left the UN General Assembly hall on Friday moments before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech.
Netanyahu started addressing the body’s 80th session at 1300 GMT, but the chamber was largely emptied by then.
The coordinated walkout was aimed at condemning Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, where more than 65,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed since October 2023.
