CAIRO, April 8 — A two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran has taken effect, drawing widespread global relief and renewed calls for sustained diplomacy to secure lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. High-level talks between the two sides are scheduled to begin in Islamabad later this week, with Pakistan playing a key mediating role.
Major global powers and regional stakeholders have welcomed the temporary truce, emphasizing the importance of turning it into a permanent settlement. China reaffirmed its support for resolving disputes through dialogue, while France and Germany described the ceasefire as a positive step toward addressing broader concerns, including Iran’s nuclear program and regional tensions.
