Doha, December 17 (QNA) – HE Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah highlighted the significance of Qatar National Day as a cherished occasion, symbolizing pride and honor for every Qatari. This year’s celebration reflects the country’s ongoing renaissance and achievements across economic, social, health, cultural, and developmental fields.
In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency emphasized that the occasion strengthens national unity, especially following the recent constitutional amendments, and underscores the advancement of human rights in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. She credited HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s wise leadership for establishing a state built on law and institutions.
Qatar National Day celebrates the nation’s identity, history, and values of loyalty, solidarity, and resilience instilled by the Founder and upheld by successive generations. Her Excellency noted Qatar’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, security, peace, and regional stability.
Highlighting the NHRC’s achievements, she mentioned its “A” accreditation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, reaffirmed through 2025. This recognition reflects the Committee’s adherence to independence, transparency, and best practices. In 2024, the NHRC promoted human rights through partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations, addressing complaints, monitoring rights violations, and issuing recommendations.
The NHRC also hosted key events, including the February conference on food justice, the October forum on protecting vulnerable groups, and the inaugural Business and Human Rights Dialogue in partnership with regional and international bodies. Additionally, the Committee signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with entities in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia to strengthen international cooperation.
A major milestone this year was the launch of the NHRC’s third strategic plan (2024–2030), aligned with Qatar’s National Development Strategy. The plan focuses on legislative compliance with international standards, protection mechanisms, civil society support, and fostering a culture of human rights.
Her Excellency concluded by expressing pride in Qatar’s comprehensive renaissance and its prominent regional and international standing under wise leadership
