Doha, February 2 (QNA) – HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to upholding the highest human rights standards and supporting the establishment of national human rights committees across the region.
In an interview with Al-Arab newspaper, Her Excellency highlighted Qatar’s significant strides in human rights over the past decade, attributing these advancements to the leadership’s commitment to justice, dignity, and inclusivity for all residents. She emphasized that both legislative and executive bodies in Qatar remain steadfast in their efforts to create an ideal human rights environment.
HE Al Attiyah underscored Qatar’s progress in labor rights, citing extensive legislative reforms that ensure fair employment practices and protect workers’ rights. She noted that human rights principles are deeply embedded in Qatari traditions and Islamic values, fostering a culture of respect and adherence. These values, she said, have been key in ensuring a welcoming and inclusive society.
On social rights, she highlighted significant progress in empowering women, children, and people with disabilities. Over the past two years, NHRC has hosted numerous human rights conferences attended by global experts, further demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to upholding international human rights standards.
Discussing international cooperation, HE Al Attiyah emphasized NHRC’s role in supporting human rights institutions in several countries, aligning with the Paris Principles. She reaffirmed NHRC’s dedication to fostering global partnerships, engaging in agreements, and exchanging expertise to advance human rights protections worldwide.
Addressing the Palestinian cause, she stressed NHRC’s unwavering support, emphasizing that defending Palestinian rights is a moral and humanitarian duty requiring urgent international attention.
HE Al Attiyah concluded by reaffirming NHRC’s commitment to human rights advocacy, ensuring Qatar remains a regional and global leader in promoting justice, equality, and dignity for all.
