Doha, February 3 (QNA) – The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) organized a consultative meeting in Doha with coordinators from the African, Indian, Nepalese, and Filipino community offices. The meeting focused on Qatar’s evolving work environment, assessing 2024’s progress and forecasting for 2025.
NHRC’s statement highlighted that over the past year, Qatar has implemented significant legislative reforms to improve the work environment. These reforms have strengthened workers’ rights, updated labor laws, introduced flexible systems in the public sector, and established effective regulations in the private sector. As a result, Qatar has become an increasingly attractive destination for work, with these changes having a positive impact on the economy and society.
The meeting also addressed workers’ aspirations for further improvements, particularly through new overhauls and strategies to enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors. A strong emphasis was placed on elevating occupational health and safety standards to solidify Qatar’s position as a leading regional work destination.
Discussions included NHRC’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2030, focusing on promoting human rights awareness and building capacity across workers, staff, and companies. The plan outlines initiatives to integrate human rights into training programs at the Institute of Public Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed NHRC’s ongoing efforts in institutionalizing human rights activities, including addressing complaints related to healthcare and education. Key initiatives for the coming period were also discussed, alongside NHRC’s long-standing commitment to protecting workers’ rights, which began with the opening of community offices in 2015.
This meeting reaffirmed the NHRC’s dedication to advancing human rights and ensuring a fair work environment in Qatar.
