NHRC: Qatar Enforces Laws Against Racial Discrimination, Human Trafficking

Doha, March 22 (QNA) – The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to combating racial discrimination and human trafficking, highlighting legal frameworks and institutions ensuring enforcement.
HE Vice-Chairman of NHRC, Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, praised Qatar’s Permanent Constitution and legislation for their advanced provisions in preventing discrimination and protecting individuals from exploitation. He emphasized NHRC’s role in fostering dialogue through forums, conferences, and seminars, as well as its participation in international human rights discussions.
Speaking at a regional forum held at Bin Jelmood House Museum, Al Kuwari reiterated NHRC’s dedication to monitoring legal developments and bridging gaps in policies. The event, organized in collaboration with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), sought to enhance awareness and cooperation on human rights.
Al Kuwari highlighted that the Bin Jelmood House Museum serves as a symbol of historical awareness, documenting slavery’s impact while showcasing Islamic civilization’s role in combating discrimination. He noted that Qatar remains a model of diversity and coexistence, hosting people from over 100 nationalities under legal protection and societal hospitality.
HE Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary-General of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, stressed the need to eradicate all forms of discrimination and build an inclusive future. He emphasized that promoting justice, equality, and human dignity requires continued efforts from governments and civil society.
Msheireb Museums’ General Manager, Abdulla Al Naama, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering justice and equality through education and dialogue. He noted that Bin Jelmood House is the world’s only museum dedicated to the story of slavery, raising awareness about modern human trafficking.
OHCHR’s Bushra Elias emphasized that while progress has been made in combating racial discrimination, systemic challenges persist, necessitating continued global efforts. The upcoming 2025 review of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination offers an opportunity to reinforce commitments and push for further reforms. She urged nations to strengthen policies ensuring equal rights and social justice for all.
