OSLO, Dec. 8 (rki.news) – A 19-year-old man was arrested after firing a shot inside Storo Storsenter, one of Oslo’s largest shopping centers, on Monday morning, Norwegian police confirmed. No injuries were reported.
The suspect entered the mall and discharged a single shotgun round into the ceiling. In addition to the firearm, he was found carrying a baseball bat and possibly a knife. Authorities said the man notified police himself and has been charged with grave illegal handling of firearms.
“There is nothing to suggest that he attempted to harm anyone,” incident commander Tomm Berger told the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK.
The shooting prompted an immediate evacuation and a large-scale emergency response, including deployment of heavily armed officers and a police helicopter. The area was declared safe, and the mall reopened around 11:30 a.m. local time. Police said officers would remain on site throughout the afternoon to reassure employees and visitors.
