Doha, Sept. 28 — The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an emergency session in Jeddah to examine the grave repercussions of Israel’s recent attack on the State of Qatar.
The meeting described the Sept. 9 assault as a blatant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the principles of peaceful relations between states. It warned that targeting a country engaged in mediation and humanitarian efforts sets a dangerous precedent and poses a serious threat to international peace and security.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the OIC Secretary-General, officials condemned the aggression as unlawful and unjustified, stressing that Israel must be held accountable. They also linked the incident to Israel’s broader campaign of violations in Gaza, including forced displacement, starvation, and attacks on civilians.
Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Chairperson of Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee, said the attack caused civilian deaths, injuries, and widespread fear, disrupting schools and threatening diplomats. She emphasized that the tragedy reflects a deeper crisis in the international system fueled by impunity and the ineffectiveness of global protection mechanisms.
IPHRC Chair Dr. Hacı Ali Açıkgül described the aggression as part of a systematic pattern targeting civilians, calling for independent investigations and referral of the crimes to international courts. Dr. Hadi Al-Yami highlighted the unprecedented nature of the assault on a humanitarian mediator state, while Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri stressed that such actions undermine peace diplomacy and reflect contempt for international norms.
The Commission reaffirmed full solidarity with Qatar, support for its sovereignty, and determination to pursue accountability through international forums. The session concluded with a united call on the global community to condemn the assault, protect civilians, and ensure justice for the victims.
