Nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, initially slated to be hosted in Türkiye, are now anticipated to occur in Oman, according to a report by Axios.

“The nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran are expected to take place in Oman on Friday,” Axios correspondent Barak Ravid wrote on X, formerly Twitter, citing an Arab diplomatic source.

Axios earlier reported that Tehran had requested shifting the meeting from Istanbul to the Gulf state, despite earlier arrangements for the Turkish city to host the discussions. Ravid later added that Washington had agreed to the proposed change in location.

He further noted that discussions are continuing over whether regional Arab and Muslim countries will participate in the Oman talks.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the White House or from authorities in Ankara, Muscat, or Tehran regarding the reported change.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had previously been scheduled to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Istanbul on Friday to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program, according to several media reports published earlier this week.

However, Axios reported on Tuesday that Iran sought not only a change in venue but also adjustments to the format of the negotiations.

Earlier reports suggested that representatives from Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar might attend the talks. Axios indicated that, alongside relocating the meeting, Iran is advocating for direct negotiations.
