MIRPUR ( AJK): December 15: Pakistan, besides Azad Jammu Kashmir achieved another major breakthrough in the healthcare sector after the State Health Specialists secured laurels shaping National Blood Transfusion Guidelines.
Bring Brilliant Minds of Transfusion (BBMT) Pakistan launched the National Guidelines on the Appropriate Clinical Use of Red Cell Concentrates in Pakistan, a landmark initiative aimed at standardizing and improving transfusion practices across the country, the AJK State Health Services official sources told our Special Jammu and Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao here Sunday.
“This groundbreaking initiative was a collaborative effort by leading experts from across Pakistan,
including notable contributions from Prof. Zahida Qasim and Dr. Akhlaaq Wazeer of DHQ Teaching Hospital, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK)”, the sources said.
The sources continued that the guidelines were unveiled at a prestigious dissemination ceremony hosted in Malaysian city of Langkavi that
brought together key contributors and notable international figures in transfusion medicine, including
Dr. Jenny White, Executive Director of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), and
Dr. Joana Bikulciene, from the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, Vilnius, Lithuania.
Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, Director General Health, AJK, commended the initiative, saying
“Great effort, congratulations to Dr. Usman & team. It is wonderful to see contributions from AJK’s
health Department hematology elite, Prof. Zahida Qasim & Dr. Akhlaaq Wazeer. This achievement
highlights the dedication and expertise of A.JK’s healthcare professionals in shaping national health
policies”, he observed.
Speaking at the ceremony Dr. Usman Waheed, the lead author, emphasized the importance of
evidence-based guidelines in optimizing patient care and reducing transfusion-related risks. The
guidelines reflect best practices and align with international standards to ensure safe, effective, and
equitable access to blood transfusion services. The guidelines provide a comprehensive framework to
promote safe, efficient, and appropriate transfusion practices for the clinical use of red cell
concentrates, he added.
“By adhering to these guidelines, healthcare providers can enhance patient outcomes, reduce risks associated with transfusions, and optimize the use of blood resources. The structured approach outlined ensures that transfusions are administered only when clinically necessary, upholding the highest standards of patient care and safety”, the seasoned medical experts underlined while addressing the ceremony.
“The BBMT Society, the sources concluded, is committed to further disseminating these guidelines through workshops, training sessions, and digital platforms to ensure their widespread implementation across healthcare institutions.
