Islamabad – Pakistan has come into global focus as the United States and Iran prepare for rare direct talks in Islamabad starting Saturday, aimed at ending weeks of conflict under a fragile ceasefire.
The capital has been placed under tight security as both delegations are set to arrive, with the formal agenda yet to be officially announced.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that all delegates, including international journalists, will be granted visas on arrival to ensure smooth participation in the engagement.
Experts say the talks carry major global importance. Professor Ishtiaq Ahmad noted the outcome is being closely watched worldwide as it could shape regional stability. While challenges remain due to tough positions on both sides, he expressed cautious optimism for possible compromise through sustained dialogue.
The negotiations follow Pakistan’s success in securing a 14-day ceasefire after 39 days of fighting triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran. The truce has created a narrow window for de-escalation and dialogue.
The US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran is expected to be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials, though final confirmation is awaited.
Officials indicate talks may extend beyond a single day, involving direct and indirect engagements aimed at a permanent ceasefire.
This meeting marks a rare face-to-face engagement between the two sides in decades, highlighting Pakistan’s growing role as a key diplomatic mediator.
