ISLAMABAD, April 8 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed deep gratitude to allied countries for their key support in securing a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough.
In a statement, the prime minister thanked China, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar for their “invaluable and all-out support” in advancing dialogue and peaceful efforts to resolve the conflict. He also acknowledged the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states for their continued commitment to regional stability.
Sharif announced that Pakistan will host talks in Islamabad on Friday, inviting delegations from both the United States and Iran to negotiate a comprehensive and lasting agreement. He expressed optimism that sustained diplomatic engagement could lead to a conclusive settlement of all disputes.
The prime minister praised partner countries and the United States for demonstrating patience and strategic foresight in giving peace a chance. He confirmed Iran’s participation in the Islamabad talks following his conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Sharif called on all stakeholders to work collectively toward lasting peace while appreciating global partners for recognizing Pakistan’s sincere diplomatic efforts. The ceasefire, announced just before a critical deadline, reflects growing momentum toward de-escalation and constructive dialogue.
