Ramallah, September 21 (QNA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decisions by the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia to recognize the State of Palestine, describing them as courageous steps aligned with international law and UN resolutions. It said the recognitions affirm these countries’ commitment to ending the occupation and achieving peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond.
In a statement Sunday, the ministry expressed gratitude to the three countries, affirming that the State of Palestine and its government are ready to establish the “strongest and most genuine relations with them at all levels.” It stressed that this recognition affirms the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and helps safeguard the two-state solution from the dangers of ongoing occupation crimes, including genocide, displacement, starvation, and annexation.
The ministry added that these recognitions inject momentum into regional and international initiatives led by Saudi Arabia and France to implement the New York Declaration, push for an immediate ceasefire, and advance a political, negotiated solution. It stressed the importance of restoring the primacy of international law in peacemaking, rather than “the arrogance of force.”
The statement urged countries yet to recognize Palestine foremost the United States to take this step, uphold international law and the International Court of Justice advisory opinion, and stand on “the right side of history” to end injustice against the Palestinian people and enable their right to self-determination. It concluded that ending the Israeli war in all its forms is the necessary starting point for calm, rebuilding trust, and restoring a political horizon for peace.
