Doha, January 6 (QNA) – Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari, reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s continued engagement, in cooperation with its mediation partners—the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Turkiye, and the United States of America—to ensure the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, the reopening of the Rafah crossing, and the sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
During the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ weekly media briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Al Ansari stated that contacts remain ongoing to advance the second phase of the agreement. He noted that while several obstacles are still under discussion, understandings have been reached on a number of issues. He stressed that, from the outset, the State of Qatar has consistently rejected the use of humanitarian aid as a tool of political blackmail in any conflict, anywhere in the world.
Addressing recent developments in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Dr. Al Ansari reiterated Qatar’s position calling for restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue as the means to resolve outstanding issues. He affirmed Qatar’s support for all initiatives aimed at reaching a peaceful solution to the crisis.
On the Yemeni issue, the official spokesperson welcomed the efforts undertaken by the Yemeni government, the legitimate representative of the Yemeni people, within the framework of the Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue process. He commended the invitation extended by the President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council to convene a conference in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to engage in negotiations and discuss solutions to outstanding issues. Dr. Al Ansari emphasized the necessity of the participation of all Yemeni political components and praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s continued support for dialogue, noting that such efforts naturally lead to agreements, including on the southern issue.
He further explained that coordination among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries remains ongoing to support Yemen in reaching a political settlement and de-escalating the conflict. Dr. Al Ansari reiterated Qatar’s support for the legitimate government in Yemen and highlighted the continued flow of Qatari humanitarian assistance through United Nations agencies, in coordination with regional partners, while welcoming all international efforts supporting Yemen at both humanitarian and political levels.
Turning to Sudan, Dr. Al Ansari described the situation as the largest humanitarian catastrophe this year. He called on all parties to intensify efforts to resolve the crisis and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, particularly to conflict-affected areas. He confirmed Qatar’s continued communication with various Sudanese parties and stressed that humanitarian assistance must not be used for political or military purposes.
Regarding threats directed against Iran, Dr. Al Ansari warned that any escalation would pose a serious threat to regional stability and international peace and security. He reaffirmed Doha’s continued communication with both Tehran and Washington and expressed support for dialogue aimed at preventing escalation, emphasizing that diplomatic solutions remain available.
Dr. Al Ansari reaffirmed that Qatar’s foreign policy is firmly grounded in diplomacy, mediation, and respect for international legitimacy. He stressed that dialogue and cooperation are essential to resolving regional and international crises, underlining Qatar’s unwavering commitment to peace, humanitarian principles, and constructive engagement with all concerned parties.
Outlining key diplomatic activities during the week, Dr. Al Ansari noted that HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received a delegation of members of the US Congress, during which both sides discussed the close strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States and ways to further strengthen them. The meeting also addressed regional developments, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.
He further highlighted that HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad arrived in Nicosia to participate in the opening of the Republic of Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union. On the sidelines of the visit, she held meetings with senior Cypriot officials to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Al Ansari also recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued statements expressing Qatar’s deep concern over developments in Venezuela and welcoming efforts by the legitimate Yemeni government to advance dialogue. These statements reaffirmed Qatar’s adherence to the Charter of the United Nations, international law, peaceful dispute resolution, and its readiness to contribute to international efforts aimed at achieving stability, unity, and sustainable peace.
