Poland has emphasized the importance of the transatlantic alliance amid renewed debate over the future of NATO following comments by US President Donald Trump about a possible US withdrawal from the alliance.
Speaking in Warsaw, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that while NATO relies heavily on the United States, American global power also depends on NATO and its allies. He stressed that the alliance remains a key guarantee of Poland’s and Europe’s security and should be preserved through continued cooperation.
He also addressed reports suggesting that Poland could send its Patriot air defense systems to the Middle East, clarifying that the systems will remain in Poland to protect national airspace and NATO’s eastern flank.
Kosiniak-Kamysz added that Europe must also strengthen its own defense capabilities, particularly through European Union security initiatives. He emphasized that Poland will continue to build strong transatlantic relations while reinforcing European security cooperation despite political tensions surrounding recent statements on NATO’s future.
