Mohammed Amin, Chief Executive Officer of the Rohingya Centre UK (RCUK), is attending the Doha Forum alongside the RCUK team, representing the Rohingya people and advocating for Rohingya-led solutions through diplomacy and dialogue.
Speaking under the forum theme, “Education as Justice in Times of Crisis”, Mr. Amin highlighted the urgent education crisis facing the Rohingya community. More than half a million Rohingya children of school age are currently out of formal education.
The Rohingya have been systematically denied access to education since 1962. This long-term exclusion has left generations marginalized and without the skills needed to rebuild their lives or participate meaningfully in shaping their future.
At the Doha Forum, RCUK held discussions with Education Above All and other international stakeholders, calling for a shift in approach — from viewing Rohingya refugees as a burden to recognizing them as an asset when provided access to quality education.
RCUK, in partnership with Professor Muhammad Shafiullah, Senior Advisory Director of the Rohingya Education System, presented a historic first initiative: a Rohingya-led Education System developed by the Rohingya, for the Rohingya.
The proposed system integrates British national education standards with faith-based values and Rohingya cultural identity and heritage. Its aim is to deliver recognized, quality education while preserving dignity, identity, and community resilience.
According to Mr. Amin, education is the only sustainable pathway to empowerment, enabling Rohingya children to advocate for themselves and prepare for a safe, dignified, and voluntary return to Burma in the future.
