Doha, January 18 (QNA) – HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held a session of official talks with HE Prime Minister of Canada Dr. Mark Carney at the Amiri Diwan on Sunday.
At the beginning of the talks, HH the Amir welcomed HE the Canadian Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation, wishing them a pleasant stay in Doha. His Highness expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s state visit would contribute to expanding prospects for bilateral cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of both friendly countries. HH the Amir also wished continued progress and prosperity for Qatari-Canadian relations.
For his part, HE Prime Minister Dr. Mark Carney expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to HH the Amir for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. He affirmed Canada’s keenness to strengthen bonds of friendship and cooperation with the State of Qatar and to propel bilateral relations to broader horizons across various fields.
The talks reviewed cooperation between Qatar and Canada and discussed ways to support and develop it in a number of areas, particularly economy, investment, defense, security, education, and health. The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing security and stability in the region and on efforts aimed at promoting international peace.
The session was attended on the Qatari side by HE Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi; HE Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi; HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi; and HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, along with Their Excellencies senior officials.
On the Canadian side, the talks were attended by HE Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development Melanie Joly; HE Minister of Finance and National Revenue Francois-Philippe Champagne; HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand; HE Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson; and several members of the official delegation.
Following the talks, HH the Amir and HE the Canadian Prime Minister held a bilateral meeting to discuss issues of mutual interest. HH the Amir later hosted a luncheon in honor of HE Prime Minister of Canada Dr. Mark Carney and his accompanying delegation. Upon arrival at the Amiri Diwan, the Canadian Prime Minister was accorded an official reception ceremony.
