Ashgabat, August 06 (QNA) – The State of Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and strengthening global partnerships for sustainable development. The statement was delivered by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad during the Third UN Conference on LLDCs in Awaza, Turkmenistan, held under the theme “Driving Progress through Partnerships.”
Dr. Al Misnad emphasized Qatar’s strategic role under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in assisting LLDCs to overcome structural challenges—particularly in transportation, transit, and logistics—that hinder their integration into the global economy.
Qatar welcomed the adoption of the Awaza Program of Action (2024–2034) and affirmed its continued support through several initiatives. These include the Qatar Fund for Development’s collaboration with UN-OHRLLS to fund projects aimed at enhancing food security and boosting crisis resilience in vulnerable nations.
Highlighting its leadership, Qatar proudly hosted the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2023 and is preparing to host the mid-term review of the Doha Program of Action (DPoA) in 2027.
Qatar’s contributions also include major investments in the UNDP Accelerator Labs Network and the launch of a debt-swap initiative for education in partnership with the World Bank, reflecting its belief in education as a cornerstone of progress.
Dr. Al Misnad also noted Qatar’s readiness to host the Second World Summit for Social Development, reaffirming its dedication to placing people at the center of development efforts.
She concluded by emphasizing Qatar’s ongoing commitment to the Awaza Program and to enhancing global cooperation for the sustainable development of LLDCs and other vulnerable nations.
