Qatar in numbers: Leading positions, notable achievements

Doha, December 31 (QNA) – The State of Qatar achieved remarkable progress in 2024, advancing steadily toward its long-term development goals under the Qatar National Vision 2030. The country continued to build world-class infrastructure and institutions, leveraging energy sector investments to establish vital entities like Qatar Airways, Qatar Investment Authority, and Qatar Foundation. Significant advancements were also made in infrastructure, including ports, airports, highways, and the metro.

Qatar ranked first regionally in global governance indicators issued by the World Bank and made strides in political stability and rule of law. The country’s ranking in the World Competitiveness Book improved to 11th globally, with top positions in economic performance, government efficiency, and business sector efficiency. Key contributors included low unemployment rates, effective corporate governance, and a robust expatriate workforce.

Digital transformation remained a priority, with Qatar advancing to 53rd globally in the UN E-Government Development Index and excelling in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index. These achievements reflect the state’s commitment to enhancing e-governance, smart cities, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Qatar’s healthcare system continued to earn global recognition. The public sector expanded to 19 hospitals and 35 health centers, while the private sector supported 417 clinics and diagnostic centers. Hamad Medical Corporation received international awards for patient-centered care, and Qatar won the 2024 Global Innovation Award in “Good Health and Well-being.”

Sustainability and innovation were also at the forefront, with Doha receiving the Shanghai Global Sustainable Development Award for its effective policies. Hamad International Airport was named “World’s Best Airport,” while Qatar Airways earned “Best Airline of the Year.” Infrastructure projects under Ashghal garnered ten safety awards, underscoring Qatar’s focus on excellence and safety.

These achievements underscore Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and excellence, reinforcing its status as a global leader in multiple domains.
