Kuwait, April 24 (QNA) – Qatar participated in the 6th session of the Government Forum to Combat Trafficking in Persons in the Middle East, held in Kuwait. The forum, themed “Protecting Rights and Promoting Justice in Combating Human Trafficking,” was attended by ministers and heads of specialized agencies from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, Jordan, Egypt, the United States, the League of Arab States, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
HE Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, Qatar’s Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, led Qatar’s delegation. In his opening address, Dr. Al Marri reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to safeguarding human rights and dignity, emphasizing the nation’s comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking. He highlighted efforts to enhance legislation, strengthen preventive measures, and provide support for victims, all in line with international best practices.
Dr. Al Marri also introduced Qatar’s National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking (2024–2026), a strategic roadmap focusing on four pillars: prevention, protection, prosecution, and international cooperation. The plan aims to improve coordination among national stakeholders, raise public awareness, ensure victim safety, and enhance institutional capacity to address this transnational crime.
Further, Dr. Al Marri discussed initiatives by the Ministry of Labour, which, in coordination with the National Committee and other relevant bodies, is implementing programs to protect workers’ rights, prevent exploitation, and promote a fair working environment.
He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration with organizations such as the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, stressing the importance of multilateral cooperation in tackling human trafficking as a global challenge.
The forum also explored various forms of human trafficking, focusing on the workplace, and provided a platform for sharing experiences and strategies to address these issues effectively. Distinguished international and regional experts participated in the discussions, underlining the importance of cooperative action in combating human trafficking
