Qatar, Lebanon issue joint statement on Aoun’s Doha visit

Doha, April 16 (QNA) – A joint statement was issued following the official visit of HE President of the Republic of Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun, to Qatar on April 16, 2025, at the invitation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The visit underscored the strong fraternal relations and historical ties between the two nations. During bilateral talks, HH the Amir and HE President Aoun reviewed ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing economic reform efforts in Lebanon.
Both leaders highlighted the promising opportunities for bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the importance of enhancing partnerships and increasing trade and investment to serve mutual interests. Discussions also covered regional and international developments, with an emphasis on promoting joint Arab action and coordinating positions on major issues, including the need for de-escalation in southern Lebanon.
Reiterating their unwavering support for the Palestinian people, the two sides called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and UN resolutions. They also reaffirmed their commitment to Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.
A key highlight of the visit was HH the Amir’s announcement of the renewal of Qatar’s grant of USD 60 million to support the salaries of the Lebanese Army, along with the donation of 162 military vehicles. Both parties emphasized the Lebanese Army’s national role and the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in full.
HH the Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s firm support for Lebanon’s stability and territorial integrity. At the conclusion of the visit, HE President Aoun expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality, while HH the Amir extended best wishes to Lebanon and its people.
