Kuwait, April 22 (QNA) – The State of Qatar participated in the 60th meeting of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) Technical Council, hosted by Kuwait on April 21-22. The Qatari delegation was led by Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam, Chairperson of the Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM).
Qatar’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening Gulf integration in standardization, aiming to protect consumers and promote exchange among GCC countries.
The meeting’s agenda included discussions on the implementation of decisions from the 59th GSO Technical Council meeting and various memos concerning specifications, standards, conformity, communication, and institutional services. Preparations for the 9th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs were also addressed.
The Council reviewed outputs from the 43rd and 44th General Committee for Standards meetings, approving 199 draft Gulf standards, seven draft technical regulations, and recommending them for Ministerial Committee approval as Gulf technical regulations. Additionally, nine typographical amendments to international standards were adopted.
The meeting covered updates from the Steering Committee of Metrology and reviewed the Working Group’s project on updating the technical regulation for food product expiration dates.
In the field of conformity, the Council discussed the draft Gulf technical regulation for electric vehicles, a memorandum on the 100 most exchanged commodities among GCC countries, and outputs from the Gulf Association for Laboratories (GCCLAB).
The meeting also examined the final account for 2024, the 2026-2030 strategic plan framework, and preparations for the 9th Ministerial Committee meeting.
Eng. Al Musallam also participated in the 21st meeting of the GCC Accreditation Center’s Board of Directors on April 20, discussing reports, recommendations, and the final account for 2024, as well as the 2025 training plan.
