New York, September 24 (QNA) – The State of Qatar participated in the emergency ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council on the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad represented Qatar, reaffirming the country’s adherence to the Islamic Group statement.
Her Excellency emphasized that mediation and diplomacy remain the only viable paths to resolving disputes. She highlighted Qatar’s joint efforts with Egypt and the United States to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, recognized by the Security Council in Resolution 2735 (2024). However, these efforts were severely undermined by the Israeli airstrike on Doha on September 9, which resulted in civilian casualties, including the martyr Bader Al Dosari, and injured 18 others.
The Minister described the attack as a grave violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter, constituting an assault on mediation itself. She stressed that protecting mediators is essential for international peace and security. International solidarity with Qatar has been evident, notably in the Security Council statement of September 11 and the Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, which denounced the attack as a threat to regional stability.
Her Excellency highlighted the unprecedented international consensus in support of a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue, including recognition of the State of Palestine, the Arab Peace Initiative, and relevant UN resolutions. She called on the Security Council to adopt binding measures under Chapter VII to halt the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, prevent forced displacement and genocide, and enforce compliance by Israel.
The Minister condemned Israel’s systematic violations of international humanitarian law, including targeting civilians, destroying infrastructure, settlement expansion, and threats to holy sites, warning that repeated attacks on neighboring countries risk broader regional conflict.
Qatar urged the UN to ensure an immediate ceasefire, guarantee humanitarian access, protect mediators, and advance a final political settlement based on a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, thereby safeguarding international peace and stability.
