Qatar Promotes Sustainability Through Education at 2025 Conference

Doha – Qatar reinforced its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy at the fifth Recycling and Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2025. The prominent event attracted wide participation from government officials, diplomats, civil society, and private sector representatives, highlighting Qatar’s regional and global leadership in environmental innovation.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning, opened the conference, emphasizing the importance of transforming waste into economic resources. He also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to modernize waste management infrastructure and drive innovation in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Her Excellency Lolwah Al Khater, Minister of Education and Higher Education, emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into school curricula and launching awareness programs for students. She described youth engagement as a vital long-term investment in the nation’s future.

Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al-Jabr Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, emphasized the need to involve families in environmental programs to ensure comprehensive awareness and recycling efforts.

The event witnessed a prominent international presence, including Her Excellency Erika Bernhard, Ambassador of Austria to Qatar, who praised Qatar’s role in uniting education and civil society around sustainability. Her Excellency Odette, the first female Ambassador of Colombia to Qatar, emphasized the importance of international cooperation and exchange of expertise.

Dr. Mervat Ibrahim, Qatar’s Ambassador for Peace and CEO of the “Ready for the Future” Educational and Technology Consulting Center, spoke about empowering people with disabilities through inclusive environmental action.

Qatari businesswomen showcased environmental entrepreneurship and transforming waste into innovative products. The CEO of Roya Rubber Industries presented tire recycling techniques, while the “Ready for the Future” Center demonstrated how educational technology enhances environmental learning. Young Rashid Al-Adam led Qatar’s child ambassadors in presenting “My Generation Recycles,” a student initiative that encourages everyday recycling habits. The conference provided a platform for cooperation and knowledge exchange, promoting Qatar’s goals of balancing development and environmental conservation for future generations.
