The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) of Qatar announced the organization of an international conference titled “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Opportunities, Risks, and Visions for a Better Future” on May 27–28 at the Ritz-Carlton Doha. The event is being held in collaboration with the UNDP, OHCHR, the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, Qatar’s Ministry of Communications, the National Cybersecurity Agency, and other global tech and human rights entities.
The conference is expected to gather around 800 stakeholders from across the globe, including government officials, policymakers, AI and tech experts, human rights advocates, legal professionals, civil society organizations, academics, researchers, international institutions, private sector firms, and technology developers.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of NHRC, said the conference will serve as a dialogue platform for governments, civil society, academia, private sector, national human rights institutions, and international organizations. He emphasized the importance of AI development that upholds the rule of law and human rights, and recalled HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s remarks at the UN General Assembly about the significance of digital technology, privacy, and cyber protection.
The conference will address 12 major themes, including AI foundations, privacy, bias and discrimination, freedom of expression, governance and accountability, transparency, digital equity, AI for good, legal frameworks, AI and security, democracy, and AI’s impact on media, employment, and economic inequality.
Dr. Al Kuwari noted the expected outcome of the event would be the Doha Declaration on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, alongside strategies for ethical AI and global cooperation.
A parallel exhibition will showcase AI’s transformative potential across sectors such as healthcare, education, sustainability, and the arts, aiming to spark dialogue, partnerships, and human rights–centered innovation.
