New York, October 31 (QNA) – HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, announced that the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held in Doha from November 4–6, 2025, will mark the first-ever official meeting of the UN General Assembly held outside New York and Geneva, in accordance with its procedural rules.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency said hosting this historic summit reflects Qatar’s leadership and active role as a strategic UN partner, reaffirming its commitment to international solidarity and multilateral cooperation. She noted that Doha has become a global hub for dialogue and partnership, having hosted landmark UN conferences including COP18 (2012), UNCTAD XIII, and the 5th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in 2023, all reinforcing its growing diplomatic and developmental influence on the global stage.
Her Excellency emphasized that the upcoming summit provides a pivotal opportunity to renew the global commitments made in Copenhagen three decades ago and to chart a new vision for advancing social development worldwide. More than 8,000 participants—including representatives of Member States, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector—will convene in Doha to reaffirm their commitment to social justice, equality, and inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
At the heart of the summit lies the “Doha Political Declaration,” a global call to action aimed at creating inclusive economic, political, and social environments that prioritize people-centered development. Key events will include the inaugural Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, the Doha Solutions Forum for Social Development, and the Private Sector and Civil Society Forums, all hosted at the Qatar National Convention Centre, showcasing Qatar’s readiness to lead international dialogue on sustainable human progress.
HE Sheikha Alya concluded that Doha once again stands as a beacon of global solidarity, transforming commitments into inspiration and partnerships into progress toward a future of shared peace and prosperity.
