Qatar welcomes Syrian administration’s steps toward stability & unity

New York, February 14 (QNA). The State of Qatar has praised the new Syrian administration’s positive steps to ensure civilian safety, stability of state institutions, public services continuity, and the basic needs of the Syrian people. Qatar commended efforts to restructure Syria, promote unity among all Syrian parties, and strengthen civil peace, security, and the rule of law.
In a statement delivered by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the Security Council Briefing on Syria, Qatar reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Syrian people and their legitimate demands for dignity and justice. Sheikha Alya emphasized Qatar’s consistent stance over the past 13 years, reflected in the restoration of fraternal relations with Syria.
She also noted that Qatar’s support was evident during the historic visit of HH Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Syria on January 30. This marked the first visit by a head of state following Syria’s transformation, where Qatar pledged its ongoing support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty.
Sheikha Alya emphasized the need for Syria’s exclusive control over arms through a unified national army, ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity. Qatar’s humanitarian commitment was highlighted with the dispatch of 378 tons of aid via 13 military aircraft and the opening of “Al Amal City” in northern Syria, a joint initiative with Turkey for displaced persons.
Qatar called for the lifting of sanctions against Syria, citing their detrimental effect on the Syrian people, and condemned Israel’s occupation of the Syrian buffer zone as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and international law.
