Mirpur, October 21 – South African pacer Kagiso Rabada reached a major milestone on Monday, claiming his 300th Test wicket as Bangladesh collapsed to 106 all out in 40.1 overs on the opening day of the first Test.

Bangladesh’s top order struggled on a lively pitch, with four of the top six batsmen failing to reach double figures. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy offered some resistance, top-scoring with 30. After winning the toss, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto elected to bat, but his side stumbled to 60-6 at lunch and were dismissed shortly after the break.

Rabada, along with Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, took three wickets each. Mulder started the collapse by dismissing Shadman Islam for a duck and followed with quick wickets of Mominul Haque (4) and Najmul (7). Rabada marked his 300th wicket by bowling Mushfiqur Rahim for 11, setting a record by achieving the feat in just 11,817 deliveries – faster than Waqar Younis’ 12,602 balls.

Rabada added to his tally, removing Litton Das for 1 with a brilliant catch by Tristan Stubbs at gully. Maharaj and Dane Piedt then wrapped up the innings by dismantling the tail.

Bangladesh is playing its first international match since political upheaval in August, which saw the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is absent from the series due to security concerns after recent clashes involving his supporters and protesters. Shakib, who announced his retirement last month, had hoped to play his farewell Test at home.
