Renowned Pakistani actor Talat Hussain passes away at 83

KARACHI: Talat Hussain, a celebrated Pakistani actor, passed away in Karachi on Sunday at the age of 83 after battling a prolonged illness, as confirmed by his daughter. Tributes poured in from across the country, honoring his legacy.

Hussain’s illustrious career spanned several decades, beginning in the 1960s. He starred in critically acclaimed TV dramas, movies, and stage plays. He passed away at a private hospital in Karachi, survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

“It is with profound grief and a heavy heart that we announce that our dearest Talat Hussain passed to his eternal abode this morning,” his daughter Tazeen Hussain wrote on Instagram. “Please pray for his maghfirah.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over Hussain’s passing, offering condolences to his family. “Talat Hussain made a place for himself in the hearts of drama and film fans around the world,” Sharif said. “His services for Pakistan’s radio, television, and films will always be remembered. The void his death has created will never be filled.”

Hussain studied at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Throughout his career, he earned numerous awards, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982. He also won international acclaim, receiving the Amanda Award for Best Supporting Actor in the Norwegian film Import Eksport in 2006 and the Nigar Award for Best Supporting Actor in the film Miss Bangkok in 1986.

Among his notable projects were Chiragh Jalta Raha, Ishaara, Gumnaam, Qurbani, Jinnah—The Movie, Actor in Law, Chupan Chupai, and Project Ghazi.
