WASHINGTON: Former US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has criticized the direction of the Trump administration and the Republican Party, saying they are “going in the wrong direction” on major national and foreign policy issues, particularly the war involving Iran.
In a statement posted on social media platform X on Thursday, Greene said she had spoken with several leading “America First” conservative figures who share similar concerns about the current direction of the Republican leadership. According to Greene, many believe the party has gradually been taken over by what she described as traditional “neocon establishment Republicans.”
She mentioned Senator Lindsey Graham and conservative commentator Mark Levin, arguing that their influence is steering the party away from the core “America First” principles many voters supported.
Greene also expressed concern about what she described as a disconnect between older political leadership and younger generations, saying the future of the United States should be shaped by younger Americans rather than “boomer leadership and donors.”
After nearly five years in Congress, Greene said she believes the political system is “deeply broken and controlled,” suggesting many decisions are influenced by powerful interests rather than public sentiment.
Her remarks come as debate grows within the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement over US involvement in the escalating conflict involving Iran. Several conservative voices have raised concerns about deeper military engagement in the Middle East.
Political commentator and former television host Tucker Carlson described the conflict as “Israel’s war” rather than America’s, criticizing reports of a strike on an Iranian girls’ school that allegedly caused heavy civilian casualties. Some US media outlets suggested the strike may have involved US forces, though the Pentagon has not confirmed the reports.
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham faced criticism after suggesting Americans might need to send their “sons and daughters” to fight in the Middle East. Several Republican lawmakers and commentators publicly opposed the idea.
Recent opinion polls in the United States indicate that many Americans remain cautious or opposed to further military escalation with Iran.
