MIRPUR (AJK), March 9: In compliance with directives from the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, local authorities have launched a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive to remove illegal constructions and installations from Mirpur, the lake-side city.
The campaign was initiated by the Municipal Corporation Mirpur and Mirpur Development Authority (MDA) in coordination with the district administration, starting from Central Shaheed Chowk. Officials said the operation aims to make Mirpur entirely free of unlawful encroachments on roads, streets, and footpaths.
The drive is being conducted under the guidance of Mirpur Division Commissioner Raja Tahir Imtiaz Khan, Deputy Commissioner Raja Sadaqat, MDA Director General Engr. Mahmood Mumtaz Rathore, Director Estate Management Ch. Amjad Ali, and Mayor Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, following the apex court’s instructions.
Estate Officer Mirpur told APP that MDA and Municipal Corporation raiding teams cleared encroachments from Allama Iqbal Road, stretching from Sheir Alam Plaza Kalyal to Ghazi Elahi Bakhsh Girls Degree College. Illegal stalls and goods displayed on footpaths and roads were removed to restore public access.
Officials warned shopkeepers and vendors against placing goods on footpaths or engaging in any unlawful encroachment. “Strict action will continue against violators, and confiscated goods will be seized immediately. Legal cases will be registered against offenders,” the Estate Officer said.
The authorities emphasized that the anti-encroachment drive will continue until Mirpur is fully cleared of all illegal constructions and commercial encroachments, ensuring a cleaner, more organized city for residents and visitors alike.
