MOSCOW, April 12 – Russia has approved the creation of a national research center dedicated to shipbuilding to strengthen coordination and innovation in maritime research, according to an official statement released Sunday.
The institution will be established through the restructuring of the Krylov State Research Center in Saint Petersburg, which will be renamed the Aleksey Krylov National Shipbuilding Research Center in honor of the late Russian scientist.
Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has been tasked with completing the reorganization by May 15.
The center will focus on scientific research in shipbuilding and marine technology while supporting the planning, design and technical validation of national shipbuilding programs.
Officials said it will unite research, design, technological and human resources from leading scientific organizations to strengthen Russia’s scientific foundation and accelerate advanced maritime technologies.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the decree after a directive issued by President Vladimir Putin in December last year.
Presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev said the center will function like other major Russian scientific hubs created to unite institutions and drive breakthroughs in priority science and technology fields.
