Moscow, June 05 (QNA) – Russia on Thursday banned the British Council, declaring it an “undesirable organization,” and describing London as an “engineer of global crises and a warmonger.”
The Russian Prosecutor General accused the British Council of “seeking to promote his country’s interests under the guise of teaching English,” adding that “numerous projects are being implemented to systematically cast doubt on the domestic and foreign policies of the Russian Federation.”
In a related development, Russian state media reported that the Federal Security Service (FSB) had presented evidence justifying the Prosecutor General’s decision, describing Britain as “the main source of global crises, the instigator of wars, and the cause of their ignition.”
The FSB, for its part, said in a statement that “London is orchestrating coups and weakening not only its geopolitical enemies but also its closest allies, inciting countries against each other, and preventing the resolution of the bloody conflicts it itself has unleashed.”
Relations between the two countries deteriorated even before Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine in 2022, with the two countries embroiled in disputes over mutual exposure of spy networks.
These tensions were further complicated by the poisoning of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal in the UK.
