Moscow, October 20 (QNA) – Russia and China welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following negotiations held in Qatar.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said: “We welcome the agreement on a mutual ceasefire along the Afghan-Pakistani border, achieved between Kabul and Islamabad with the mediation of the Qatari and Turkish authorities.”
In a statement, she voiced Moscow’s call on Kabul and Islamabad to expand their cooperation, including in countering terrorism.
She added that the two countries’ intention to engage in dialogue and resolve their disagreements through political and diplomatic means forms the basis for maintaining peace between the two countries and and serves as an important factor in ensuring regional security.
In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun affirmed today that his country welcomes the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He expressed China’s support for continued dialogue and consultations between Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their differences, achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, and work together to maintain peace and stability in both countries and the region.
A round of negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan was held in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkey. During the round, the two sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability between the two countries.
