Russia has reaffirmed its long-standing position that Taiwan is an integral part of China and reiterated its opposition to Taiwan’s independence in any form, according to remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
In an interview with Russian media, Lavrov said Moscow’s stance on the Taiwan issue remains principled and unchanged. He emphasized that Russia recognizes Taiwan as part of China and views the matter strictly as an internal issue, affirming Beijing’s right to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lavrov noted that Russia consistently supports China’s position on national unity and rejects any actions or initiatives that promote separatism or challenge China’s territorial integrity. He stressed that Moscow’s approach aligns with international law and established diplomatic principles.
In the same interview, the Russian foreign minister also expressed concern over Japan’s recent policy direction, warning that accelerated militarization by Tokyo could undermine stability in the Asia-Pacific region. He said such moves carry clear risks and could have negative consequences for regional security.
Lavrov’s remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in East Asia, where issues related to Taiwan and regional military developments continue to draw international attention.
