MOSCOW, Sept. 10 — Russia has dismissed allegations that drones shot down over Poland were of Russian origin, saying Warsaw has yet to provide any evidence.
Russia’s Charge d’Affaires in Poland, Andrey Ordash, said Wednesday that accusations from Polish officials were “groundless.”
In neighboring Lithuania, Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene suggested that the drones’ entry into Polish airspace was most likely accidental, adding that “precise data” is still lacking and that the devices may have simply “got lost.”
The Belarusian Defense Ministry also reported downing several drones overnight. According to Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Muraveiko, Belarusian air defenses detected drones that strayed during Russian-Ukrainian exchanges, some of which were diverted by electronic warfare and later destroyed. Both Poland and Lithuania were informed in advance about drones approaching their territories, he said.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, however, stated earlier on the platform X that a “huge number” of Russian drones had violated Poland’s airspace and posed a “direct threat.” The Polish Armed Forces confirmed they intercepted and destroyed multiple drones after repeated incursions overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The conflicting accounts highlight ongoing regional tensions as drone warfare continues to spill over borders in Eastern Europe.
