Russia has called for an end to what it described as “illegal” attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, warning that regional stability, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, depends on ending the ongoing conflict.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said the current tensions in the Strait of Hormuz were a direct consequence of military actions against Iran and stressed that the situation would stabilize only after the conflict comes to an end. He emphasized that Russia has consistently called for stopping the war and ending what he termed aggression against Iran.
Commenting on statements by US President Donald Trump regarding possible strikes on Iranian energy facilities, Rudenko expressed hope that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant would not be targeted, warning that any attack on the facility could have catastrophic consequences due to the presence of nuclear material.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, a direct strike on the Bushehr plant could result in a significant release of radioactivity into the environment.
The remarks come amid ongoing military escalation following large-scale strikes on Iranian nuclear and energy facilities since late February, further increasing tensions across the Middle East and threatening global energy routes.
