Moscow, November 7 (RKI) – Russia is closely monitoring developments following US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on potential military action in Nigeria, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday.
Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Zakharova urged Washington and all parties involved to act in full compliance with international law. “We are closely monitoring the situation and call on all sides to strictly comply with international legal norms,” she said.
Her comments came after President Trump announced on November 1 that he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare options for possible military measures against terrorist groups in Nigeria, citing the need to protect Christian communities.
Responding to questions about Kazakhstan joining the Abraham Accords, Zakharova said Moscow does not see the need to comment at this time. Kazakhstan confirmed its accession on Friday, following a phone conversation between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was joined by President Trump.
Zakharova also expressed concern over reports of Israeli ceasefire violations along the Lebanese border. She emphasized that Russia continues to engage with both Israeli and Lebanese authorities to prevent renewed violence.
“Russia remains committed to working with regional and international partners to maintain stability in Lebanon and the wider Middle East,” she added.
