Geneva, February 26 (QNA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin stated that stakes are extremely high for a direct military confrontation between nuclear states.
Speaking at the High-Level Segment Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Vershinin added that with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations approaching, there is a dire crisis overshadowing security.
He stressed that the situation is degenerating at a pace that is profoundly frustrating, highlighting the high stakes of a direct military confrontation between nuclear powers, with tensions and conflicts escalating almost everywhere.
The reason of the current situation lies in the ongoing confrontation over the model of international order, Vershinin stressed, adding that ambitions for dominance clash with the desire for a more just international order based on multipolarity.
Vershinin indicated that pursuers of global dominance flagrantly violate the principle of equal, indivisible security, disregarding the core interests of other nations, thereby undermining previous agreements, and seeking uncontested military superiority.
These actions, he said, compel other nations to take specific measures to safeguard their security.
