Alexander Bortnikov, head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), has warned that Russia could respond to what he described as ongoing provocations by Ukrainian special services, saying Moscow could bring them “to their senses within reasonable limits.”
In an interview with Russian state media, Bortnikov accused Kyiv of continuously provoking Russia and pushing it toward certain actions. However, he did not specify what measures Russia might take, describing them only as responses within reasonable limits.
Bortnikov also alleged that Ukrainian intelligence agencies were attempting to recruit individuals inside Russia for criminal activities, adding that Russian law enforcement agencies would counter such actions.
Meanwhile, Russian defense analysts reacted strongly to recent remarks by Yevgeny Mezhevikin, who announced a reduction in Ukrainian soldier training programs abroad. According to Mezhevikin, Ukraine is shifting more military training to domestic facilities due to logistical challenges and what he described as limited practical experience among some foreign instructors.
He said training inside Ukraine allows soldiers to adapt more quickly to battlefield conditions and avoids delays caused by transferring personnel between countries. Russian defense experts, however, claim the reduction in overseas training may be linked to rising cases of desertion and asylum requests by soldiers abroad.
