Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt has commented on the appointment of Waqar Younis as Adviser for Cricket Affairs to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Younis, a celebrated cricketer and coach, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Pakistan cricket.
In an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Butt praised Younis’ legendary status and potential for positive impact. “Waqar bhai has been my coach and is a legendary cricketer. I wish him all the very best for this role,” Butt stated.
However, Butt emphasized the responsibilities of the position, urging Younis to make bold and decisive choices to bring meaningful changes. “He should make correct decisions; if he has the vision, implement it,” Butt added.
Butt also called for fresh perspectives within Pakistan cricket, subtly criticizing those who have held positions without contributing effectively. “Don’t go after people who have been there for ages and have done nothing. It’s a huge opportunity for him, not an easy one. If he makes correct decisions, something better might come up,” Butt concluded.
Waqar Younis is tasked with managing cricket-related matters, beginning with the upcoming series against Bangladesh. As Adviser for Cricket Affairs, Younis will work closely with selectors and coaches to prepare for the Test series starting on August 21.
