Shura Council Hails Hosting of Arab Cup Qatar 2025, Approves 2026 Draft State Budget

Doha, December 01 (QNA) – The Shura Council held its ordinary weekly session on Monday at Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council’s headquarters, chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.
At the session’s outset, the Council welcomed Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, which begins later on Monday, commending the comprehensive organizational and operational preparations that highlight the State’s ability to manage major sporting events efficiently. The Council emphasized that, under the wise directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the tournament represents a key Arab sporting event hosted in Doha, reinforcing Arab unity, enhancing opportunities for closer ties and experience exchange, and positioning sports as a platform for communication and strengthening human connections.
HE Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud then read the session agenda, and the Council approved the minutes of its previous meeting.
The Council endorsed the State’s draft general budget for the fiscal year 2026 and the draft law approving the budget, referring both to the esteemed government after reviewing the report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee. It also reviewed a draft law amending certain provisions of Decree-Law No. (24) of 2019 on regulating and managing the strategic stock of food and consumer goods, forwarding it to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee for study and reporting.
Additionally, the Council examined the government’s statement on its proposal “The Teacher and His Role in Instilling National Identity Values,” referring the matter to the Education, Culture, Sports, and Media Affairs Committee for further study and reporting.
The Council reviewed reports on international participations by its members: HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker, at the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament and the Sixth World Conference Preparatory Committee meeting in Geneva; HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dosari at the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee meeting; and HE Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie at the seventh Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies on Counter-Terrorism, held virtually in July.
