Vienna, June 26 (QNA) – The Shura Council participated in the global meeting of the International Network for Legislation on Drugs (INLOD), organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at the UN Vienna International Centre in the Austrian capital of Vienna. The meeting was held with the participation of parliamentarians, policy makers and experts from around the globe and it was organized with the aim of enhancing international coordination and developing legislation on synthetic drugs.
In the meeting, the Shura Council was represented by Their Excellencies members of the council, Essa bin Arar Al Romaihi and Ahmed bin Sultan Al Aseeri.
The meeting addressed emerging challenges associated with synthetic drugs, ways to develop national, regional and international legislative responses in this area, and reviewed the experiences of parliaments in enacting relevant legislation. Best practices were also exchanged to strengthen early warning systems, develop legal frameworks, and balance punitive measures with health interventions, while ways to enable parliaments to support prevention and treatment and cooperate in combating illicit trafficking and money laundering linked to drug crimes were explored.
