Aleppo, Syria — Security and normal life are gradually returning to the Syrian city of Aleppo following the evacuation of the remaining YPG/SDF elements from key neighborhoods, Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib said on Sunday.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, al-Gharib said stability is steadily being restored in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, assuring residents that the city is moving toward safety and calm. He described the recent developments as a major turning point, stating that “the page of anxiety has been turned,” and that Aleppo has regained security through unity and resilience.
The governor added that relevant authorities are continuing on-ground efforts to stabilize security conditions and ensure the full return of normal life across all districts. “Aleppo today is safe, and tomorrow it will be even more stable,” he said.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the latest evacuation involved the final group of YPG/SDF militants leaving the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. The group was transported in a convoy of buses and ambulances after accepting evacuation terms, with another group evacuated from Yasin Hospital to the same destination.
Syrian state television, citing security sources, confirmed that the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are now under the control of the Syrian Army. The evacuated militants are reportedly being transferred to the town of Tabqa, west of the Euphrates River, an area under YPG/SDF control.
Earlier, the Syrian Army announced a halt to military operations in Sheikh Maqsoud as of Saturday afternoon.
Official figures indicate that shelling by YPG/SDF forces in recent days resulted in civilian casualties, widespread displacement, and damage to residential areas and public facilities.
